One of the most picturesque areas of unspoiled wild beauty in Chu Valley - The Red River - is located 60 km from Bishkek. Red River originates not far from Tokmak, and flows on the territory of hunting holding Korkol. The river's relief provides lots of magnificent places ideal for fishing.
The predominant specie in the river is Rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri Rich) that reaches 20 - 25 sm (8 - 10 inch) in length, and weights 1-2 kg (2-4 pounds). The largest trout caught here was 7 kg (15 pounds).
Rainbow trout grows faster than river one, and in suitable environment it can reach 40-42 cm (16 -17 inch) and weight up to 1 kg. Rainbow trout isn't so sensitive to the water temperature increase even up to 28-30 C, that's why it can be met in drainage ditches flowing into the Red River.
Adult fish usually is predator. Unlike the river trout, rainbow trout sometimes stay in shoals on open spots and rifts, as if filling the spots avoided by river trout.
River trout can be treated only as a potentially interesting object of amateur fishing due to its very limited representation in Kyrgyzstan.
One of the typical patterns of behavior shown by rainbow trout when drawn out of the water is that it jumps out of the water shaking its head much like a pike trying to get off the hook.
